Z&S foundation commits N32.4m to healthcare needs

In a bid to complement government efforts in the area of healthcare delivery, a humanitarian organisation, the Zakat and Sadakat Foundation (ZSF) began this year’s zakat distribution, by distributing N32.4 million to 53 individuals with health-challenged, to settle their medical bills.

Distributing the assistance on Tuesday in Lagos, Prince Sulayman Olagunju, the Executive Director of ZSF that the beneficiaries were selected among numerous individual, religious bodies, health centres, communities and humanitarian organizations that applied for this year’s zakat across the country.

“In line with our tradition to give priority to the applicants with medical challenges, We are commencing this year’s zakat disbursement with the total sum of N32,365,000 to just 53 lucky applicants out of several applications received.

“We sincerely feel the pains of those we could not consider after undergoing series of screening exercise for lack of enough fund, we pray Allah opens His door of mercy for them.

“The next batches of disbursements after today, are for the successful applicants in the South-East and South-South region of the country, after which we move to the North Central.

“While the last batch of this year’s distribution is for applicants in the South-West of the country, which includes Lagos State,” Olagunju said.

According to him, the focus of this year’s Zakat (Charity) distribution is geared towards restoring hope to many patients that have lost hope in regaining their health and becoming productive members of our society.

“We are going to assist so many applicants to set up and run their own small scale businesses, the petty traders and artisans are not also left out.

“About ten different communities will benefit from our free water projects and many health centres shall be equipped with essential needs as part of our community development projects initiatives.

“I have no doubt that all the successful beneficiaries of this year’s zakat will be praying for the zakat payers for helping them to overcome their challenges.”

He expressed appreciation to all the zakat payers and appeal for more donations to enable the foundation to expand its charity to cover more applicants.
