Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, has sponsored 40 indigent students to Biga College of Education, Sokoto, to undergo various three year National Certificate in Education (NCE) courses.
This is contained in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani, in Sokoto.
The statement said that Sen. Wamakko, who is also the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum, distributed the admission letters to the benefiting students on Monday.
The statement quoted Wamakko who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education as saying that, the beneficiaries were drawn from the 23 local governments of the state.
He, however, explained that priority attention was given to the educationally – disadvantaged local governments of Illela, Gudu and Silame.
Senator Wamakko further said that the gesture was to shore up the educational development of the state and Nigeria in general.
The lawmaker admonished the students to strive to excel in their studies, so as to be useful to themselves, their families and the state.
He announced that the payment of monthly upkeep allowances to the students would commence on Tuesday, while a befitting accommodation will be provided for those who hail from outside Sokoto city and its environs.
Wamakko further disclosed that he “is currently sponsoring hundreds of students in Pakistan, Ghana, Cotonou, Sudan, Cyprus, Niger Republic, Uganda, Ilorin and Abeokuta, in Kwara and Ogun States respectively”.
