The Registrar of the West African Examination Council (WAEC), Dr Iyi Uwadiae on Friday issued an “attestation certificate” to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, thus bringing to an end, the controversy that surrounded his credentials.
Buhari is being criticised by the opposition after he told the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), that his school certificate is still with military authorities.
The spokesman of the president, Femi Adesina, in a tweet from his verified Twitter handle, said “WAEC presents attestation certificate and confirmation of school cert result to President Buhari. What will the naysayers say next?”.
President Buhari’s position had, however, continued to trigger comments from political observers with some Nigerians questioning the authenticity of the position.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had on Oct. 26 challenged President Buhari to show proof of his integrity by presenting his academic credentials “if he has any,” to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Social and political observers have expressed the hope that today’s event would put to an end to the controversy trailing the president’s school certificate.
