Vigilante nabs child trafficker, rescues 2 boys

The Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) on Sunday rescued two under-aged boys from a suspected child trafficker in Abana community in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State.

Dr. Mercy Effiom, the commander of the VGN in the state, who briefed newsmen in Calabar, also said that the arrested was effected following a tip off from a good Samaritan.

Effiom said that following her directive Mr. Godknows Okon-Edem a fisherman and a native of Ikot Obio Okon in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom was arrested by men of VGN.

The Commander explained that after serious interrogation, the suspect confessed that one woman usually brings children to him and that he used to pay her N10,000 monthly.

The suspect, Okon-Edem 31, claimed that he requested for a house-help somebody brought the boys to him adding that the eldest of them has escaped, he denied being a child trafficker.

“I asked the lady, who brought the children to me, about their mother and she told me that the children belong to her sister and that they do not like going to school,” he said.
