Tragedy: 300L Uniosun Student stabbed to death

Fracas erupted in Osogbo on Monday as 300-level student of the Department of Civil Engineering at the Osun State University, Osogbo, Kazeem Amodu Ige, was stabbed to death by a fellow student.

The incidence happened on Monday evening at the students’ hostel along University Road in Oke-Baale area, Osogbo.

Ige was said to have been stabbed by one Yusuff Adekunle, a 400L student of the Department of Physics Electronics in the same university.

It was gathered that a fight ensued between Adekunle (a.k.a Stone) and some other students but all of a sudden he went wild and stab Ige, who trying to separate the fight, was  to death.

A source, who pleaded anonymity, said that the deceased was not among those fighting, that he was only trying to separate the fight when he was stabbed.

It was gathered that Ige was rushed to the Our Lady of Fatimah Catholic Hospital, Jaleyemi area in Osogbo  for medical treatment but was confirmed dead on arrival.

His corpse was initially deposited at the mortuary of the same hospital for autopsy but it was later transferred to the State Hospital, Asubiaro by the University authorities.

The Osun State Police Command  Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Folashade Odoro, confirmed the incident.

She said that the Commissioner of Police, Mr Fimihan Adeoye, has ordered a full scale investigation into the matter, assuring that the culprit would not go scot-free.

The PPRO noted that necessary measures have been put in place to prevent reprisal attacks among the students, assuring that the Police would ensure safety of lives and properties in the area.

She added that the commissioner had also ordered tight security around campus to forestall break down of law ans order.
