TMC felicitates with President-elect

By our correspondent

The Muslim Congress (TMC) has joined teaming Nigerians, Statesmen and faith based organisations in Nigeria and in diaspora to felicitate and solidarise with the President-Elect, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (GCON) and his Vice  Prof. Yemi Osibajo (SAN) over their success at polls.

This is contained in a press statement signed by the Amir (President) of the Congress, Imam Luqman AbdurRaheem and made available to The Renaissance on Thursday in Lagos.

He stated that success of the general and his erudite scholarly vice president-elect was well deserved.

“Your election by Nigerians is a well-deserved elevation to the prestigious positions in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Most importantly, the concluded peaceful election is a ‘special
victory’ to His Excellency, President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan
(GCFR), for humbly conceding victory to the victor, ahead of formal
declaration by the National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“It shows he is a real democrat, a peace-lover and a genuine statesman.

“All Nigerian politicians should emulate these uncommon qualities of
leadership, as we prepare for the next elections on April 11, 2015,” AbdurRaheem stated.

The Congress exhorted both the President-Elect and Vice President-Elect with
the words of Allah thus:

“O Believers! Stand out firmly for justice as witnesses for the sake of Allah, even though your justice and your evidence might be harmful to yourselves, or to your parents, or to your relatives.

“It does not matter whether the party concerned is rich or poor: Allah is their
greater well-wisher than you; so, follow not your own desire lest you should deviate from doing justice. (Q4:135)

“For the political actors, the party loyalists and the general public let our joy and jubilation be guided by the verses of the Glorious Qur’an below. “Verily, Qarun was of Musa’s people, but he behaved arrogantly towards them.

“And We gave him of the treasures, that of which the keys would
have been a burden to a body of strong men. Remember when his people
said to him: “Do not exult. Verily, Allah likes not those who
exult”.

“But seek, with that which Allah has bestowed on you, the home of the Hereafter, and forget not your portion of lawful enjoyment in this world; and be generous as Allah has been generous to you, and seek not mischief in the land. Verily, Allah likes not the mischief-makers.” Q28:76

TMC also counseled the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the need to beware of politics of winner takes-it-all.

“The party must learn from the mistakes of its predecessor and allow service to the citizenry to be its political foundation.

“Power as a concept is transient; whosoever is given such must be conscious to exercise it with justice, fairness and piety.

“Prophet Daud (David) was  admonished by Allah thus: “O David, We have indeed made you a vicegerent on earth: so judge you between men in truth (and justice). Nor follow you the lust (of thy heart) for it will mislead you from the path’ (Q: 38Vs 26).

Finally, TMC prayed that the Almighty Allah would enable Buhari and vice to discharge the herculean tasks and responsibilities thrust in them by the hopeful Nigerians.
