Some Convocation Huh?

I keep hearing it e’rywhere, ‘convocation’
E’ryone prepares for Today’s occasion
thinking they’ve attained good education
O you’ve no idea, there’re demarcations!

Who can boldly answer my wild questions?
Or better still make the right suggestions
Can anyone say what we’re celebrating?
I think ages are worth more calibrating!

Congratulations and felicitations
Convocations and the matriculations
Everyone makes their own impressions
But can we please do the estimations?

Brother Ben is a graduate of N.C.E
For three years, he treaded the C.O.E
With all his distinctions and no single E
He can only work in a school’s primary

Sister Gwen is a holder of H.N.D
And this ain’t just a mere O.N.D
She’s got A’s all through and no D
Sells cheap beads, that’s what she dees

I know many more with Bachelor degrees
They’re still in papa’s house with no means
Not that they don’t wanna be employees
They just can’t find a farm to till beans

And then again and I’m still waiting
Tell me, what are you celebrating?
Convocation of massive joblessness?
Or an opening to merry hopelessness

He graduated with classic distictions
Yet he suffers the most restrictions
She came out as one of the first classes
I hope I won’t see her wiping the glasses

Wake up youth! It’s no time for mirth!
We’ been struggling to learn from birth!
After all that, where’s our worth?
We still strive for nothing till our death!

Education used to be the key
But now the doors open to one kick
Children were said to tomorrow, lead
But now the aged never want to leave

Also read  Saudi gunman tweeted against U.S. before naval base shooting

All we do is read, read and read!
Some still aim to get masters degree
While other won’t stop until PhD
Eating books, choke till they can’t breathe

Convoking, some can’t spell their names
Evoking, some have no life’s aims
How did they get those certificates?
How do they surpass with high grades?

So once again and I’m still waiting
Tell me, what are you celebrating?
Convocation of massive joblessness?
Or an opening to merry hopelessness

Wake Up Youth!
It’s No Time for Mirth!
