President Buhari preaches against hate speech, canvasses vote for APC

The Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari has urged Nigerians to shun hate speech, conduct themselves in a peaceful manner and ensure they vote wisely in the coming 2019 election.

President Buhari who made the appeal at the inauguration of the new governor of Osun State, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, told Nigerians to vote the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He also urged politicians to focus in the issues-based campaign rather than propaganda and pull them down syndrome.

Represented by the Secretary to the Federal Government, Boss Mustapha, Buhari congratulated the new governor and he enjoined him to remember that leadership position is a position of trust.

“You must regard the public office as a trust. I urged you to led by the fear of God. You must also realise that good governance is a prerequisite for progress and progress will be greatly facilitated by massive infrastructure development which has been the focus of our administration.

“`As I Congratulate you on this occasion, you should be a governor for all and pay attention to the women, the youths and the vulnerable.

“Today’s inauguration marks a peaceful transition from one democratic government to another. I thank the outgoing Gov. Rauf Aregbesola for handing over to a new brand governor of the progressives.

“I also thank the peace loving people of Osun for their peaceful conduct during the last election despite the minor challenges,” the president said.

Buhari assured the new governor of the Federal Government support for infrastructural development in various aspects, including roads, housing projects, water supply schemes, and rehabilitation of primary health care centre per Senatorial District.

The National Leader of the APC, Senator Bola Tinubu thanked the former governor Aregbesola for working the talk and congratulated the new governor on his ascension.

He described the victory of Oyetola, the first of its kind where a progressive governor handed over to his party man in Osun, as the final exit of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party in Southwest Nigeria.

“No shaking; there is no going back to the past greedy politicians and old scavengers of our commonwealth.

“They laid a foundation of personalisation theory of greed through privatisation of our national assets,”

Tinubu assured Oyetola of the support of all the progressive politicians both within and outside the government and challenged the new governor to forge ahead to sustain the hope and the legacies of his predecessor.

In an acceptance speech, Gov. Gboyega Oyetola assured the citizens of Osun of people-friendly government which shall seek to pay the workers salary promptly

He said his government shall seek to sustain the legacies of past administration and strive to surpass their achievements by adopting the fusion of their strategies.

“We will combine the sagacity of Obafemi Awolowo, the vision of Bola Ige, the wisdom of Bisi Akande, the dexterity of Bola Tinubu and the innovative capacity of Rauf Aregbesola to make our State even greater.

“Let me, at this juncture, point out what will become the defining hallmark of our intervention in governance, in the next four years, namely; a social partnership between government and the people based on the execution of a social contract.

“We rest not and quit not. We forge ahead because progress is all we know. Neither defeat nor retreat is for us.

“We shall learn from the past, yet we shall never be stuck in the past, we shall forge ahead to sustain the hope and greatest good of the greatest number of our people.

“We will ensure that workers’ salaries are paid promptly bearing in mind the financial inflow of the state.

“We shall resolutely defend, extend and prioritise the welfare of workers and pensioners,” Oyetola said.

He assured President Buhari of the support of the people of Osun and promised to deliver the state in the 2019 elections.

“I wish to assure Mr President on behalf of the people of Osun that we are ready for the Next Level and by the special will of God (Ileri Oluwa), we shall deliver Osun for the Buhari-Osinbajo re-election on Feb. 16, 2019.”

The governor expressed his profound happiness and fulfilment for working with former governor Aregbesola who he described as an enigma and “the most resourceful, consummate and creative governor in the history of Osun”.

According to Oyetola, Aregbesola is a compulsive thinker, a unique leader, a phenomenon and the architect of a new State of Osun.

The inauguration was attended by all party chieftains, including governors, government functionaries, traditional rulers and party enthusiasts across the country.
