The police have put handcuffs on Sen. Dino Melaye who was re-arrested after he jumped off the police vehicle being used to convey him to Lokoja on Tuesday on his hospital bed.
He has been moved to the National Hospital Abuja as at the time of filing in this report.
It was gathered that the doctor at Zankli hospital where he was initially admitted claimed that the senator sustained spinal cord injury.
The doctor was said to have been arrested, but this cannot be confirmed as at the time of this report.
Police in a statement yesterday said that they would take Dino to Lokoja to appear in court without any further delay.
Visitors have been prevented from seeing the senator who jumped out from a moving police vehicle on Tuesday in a bid to escape.
The police re-arrested Melaye at the Zankli Hospital on Tuesday evening and transferred him to the current hospital where he was being dehumanised.
The police had in a statement on Tuesday said that at about 12.00 noon, Melaye, while in the lawful custody of the Police, had attempted to escape from lawful custody when hoodlums and miscreants in two Toyota Hilux Vehicles blocked the Police vehicle conveying him around Area 1 Round About, Abuja.
In the statement issued by Force Spokesman, Jimoh Moshood in Abuja said the senator was being taken for arraignment at the Federal High Court Lokoja from Abuja when he attempted to escape.
Moshood stated that in the process, the Senator jumped out of the Police vehicle through the window and was rescued from the Policemen by hoodlums and miscreants to an unknown destination.
The Police team re-enforced and trailed Senator Dino Melaye to Zankli Hospital, Abuja where he was re-arrested.
The Senator would be arraigned in court without further delay.
Meanwhile, one of the Toyota Hilux vehicles used by the hoodlums and miscreants in aiding the escape of the Senator has been recovered by the Police investigation team.
“The Inspector General of Police has therefore directed a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the rescue and escape of Senator Dino Melaye from lawful custody,” he said.
