Two middle-aged men were arrested by men of Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police for allegedly robbing motorists with a jackknife on the Kara long bridge of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Sunday.

Abimbola Oyeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ogun Command said in a statement that the suspects (names withheld), who hailed from Benue and Kebbi States were arrested while dispossessing the motorists of their valuables on the bridge.

According to Oyeyemi, the duo, residing in Kara-Isheri in Ogun state were apprehended while attacking two persons, whose names were given as Agoro Adebayo and Olalekan Toheeb when their vehicle developed a mechanical fault on the bridge.

He said that the victims were attacked by the suspects while trying to fix their faulty car when the two men suddenly came out from under the bridge and threatened the duo with the knife and dispossess them of their valuables.

“In the process, the patrol team from Warewa division while on routine patrol on the bridge, met them in the act.

“On sighting the policemen, the suspects took to their heels and jumped under the bridge.

“But they were promptly apprehended right under the bridge where they have turned to their hideout,” Oyeyemi said.

The PPRO said a jackknife was recovered from them.

He added that the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Mr Kenneth Ebrimson, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to Special Anti Robbery Squad for discreet investigation and prosecution.
