The Osun State Government has ordered the reversal of single uniform and change of name of schools to their previous status.
The order came on the heels of the approval by Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola of the recommendations of the Education Review Committee.
The Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode, at a press briefing said many of the recommendations of the committee were approved at the executive meeting held on Monday.
Egbemode who was flanked by the Commissioner of Education, Mr Folorunso Bamisayemi said the reversal of single uniform to separate ones for each school will take effect from the next academic session.
The Middle and High Schools initiative introduced by former Governor Rauf Aregbesola will also give way to ‘Grammar School’ hitherto being used.
The meeting also agreed that the schools be reversed to the 6-3-3-4 scheme as against the 4-5-3-4 introduced by the former governor to accommodate the homegrown school feeding system
She explained that Governor Oyetola had to agree to the reversals because of the overwhelming demand from the people of the state.
The merger of girls high schools with boys high schools was also reversed with each staying as they were initially.
Reintroduction of Tablet of Knowledge
However, Governor Oyetola agreed to retain the Tablet of Knowledge otherwise known as ‘Opon Imo’, one of the unique achievements of Aregbesola, saying the government will reintroduce the tablet while collaborating with stakeholders for effective implementation.
Professor Olu Aina-led Committee on Education Review had submitted its report, urging the governor to return the schools to the former positions before the administration of his predecessor.
