Osun 2018: Civil Society plans to independently investigate governorship aspirants

Adeniyi Suleiman

A Civil Society, Coalition for the Emancipation of Osun State (CSCEOS) says it will independently investigate all governorship candidates for the Osun State election and screen them to determine their suitability for the exalted governorship seat.

Comrade Adeniyi Sulaiman, the Chairman of the group, announced this at a press conference held at the Correspondents’ Chapel of NUJ on Tuesday in Osogbo.

Sulaiman said such process would lay the foundation for the emergence of most competent and credible candidates in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun.

The Renaissance reports that the CSO is a non-political and religious group for the propagation of true democracy.

He said the primary reason for the existence of government was to guarantee the delivery of the dividends of democracy to the electorates.

He said that any governorship aspirants, who fail to undergo the screening exercises to be conducted by the CSCEOS would be dragged before the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) for appropriate actions.

According to him, such persons would be regarded as one with questionable characters and not fit to rule over the masses that will give their mandate to the politician.

He noted that the best way to provide a credible candidate was to institute pre-qualification criteria for screening, identifying, and presentation of credible persons.

“We want credible candidates that would be faithful to their oaths and also competent in stirring the affairs of the state.

“Such persons would be expected to deliver the dividends of democracy to the suppressed and also taking the impoverished out of their shackles,” Sulaiman added.
