One killed as suspected cultists clash at UNILAG

One person, suspected to be a student cultist was shot dead in a shoot out that caused pandemonium at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Akoka on Tuesday night.

A correspondent of The Renaissance reports that a gang of gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded the Amphi Theatre, near the University Sports Centre around 9:30pm and started shooting sporadically.

A multitude of Christian worshipers doing fellowship, fun lovers and other people at the Amphi Theatre scampered for safety following the sporadic gunshots.

Our correspondent further reports that people, who were around when the orgy broke out, scampered for safety.

According to eye witnesses, the victim was trailed to the Amphi Theater, a stone throw from the first gate of the University, where he was shot dead.

Although it was not clear whether the victim was a student of the University, he was reported to have come to have “fun” at the spot.

The identity of the victim could not be immediately ascertained.

Eye witness said, he was with his own gang when the gunmen waded in, shot him serially and left him in own pool of blood.

The campus security men, who later arrived the scene, could not contain their fear as
they could neither move near the corpse nor carry it immediately.

It took the intervention of some students who surmounted the courage to remove the corpse.

The corpse was deposited at the mortuary of the University medical center.
