The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has commiserated with the family of late Senator Uche Chukwumerije who died on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the age of 76 years.
Late Senator Chukwumerije, according to the director-general in a statement, would be sorely missed for his great contributions to sports most especially Taekwondo in Nigeria.
“Late Senator Uche Chukwumerije was a passionate lover of taekwondo, a martial art sport and he was a black belter.
“He had also used his personal contacts to help promote the sports in partnership with the National Sports Commission during his life time.
“He also encouraged his two sons, Chika and Uche Chukwumerije, to take up taekwondo and he personally nurtured and groom them to become Africa Champions in the sport.
“Chika as we know, won a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Late Senator Chukwumerije, we recall, funded the training of his son Chika for the Games then.
“We pray that God grants his family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and also pray that he should rest in perfect peace”, Elegbeleye stated
