The Nigerian Air Force has directed its 209 Quick Response Squad to partner with the South West Joint Task Force codenamed “Amotekun” that will be launched soon.
Gov. Gboyega Oyetola made the remarks during the flag-off of counter-terrorism exercise tagged “Operation Buje Ekun” by the Nigerian Air Force in Ipetu Ijesa, Osun State.
The governor said the Amotekun will soon be launched across the region and commended the Air Force boss, Sadique Abubakar and his team for the operation.
He expressed optimism that the operation will go a long way in resolving the current security challenges bedevilling the country
Oyetola noted that the flag-off of the operation Buje Ekun in Osun state is a confirmation of the commitment of the Air Force to the promotion of peace, security and stability of the state and the country at large.
”The current leadership of the Nigerian Air force has used this to demonstrate the resolve to ensure that its officers and men are capable of performing their duties.
”This would deter criminal elements in the state and I am equally glad that our administration’s task of protecting the lives and property of the good people of Osun is receiving the needed drive with the conduct of this operational exercise”.
Security is pivotal to the development
The Governor said security of lives and property of citizens remains a priority of his administration, saying the government will not relent in its efforts through a continuous partnership with the Air Force and other security agencies.
He said his administration needs security in its frantic efforts to unlock the investment and business potentials of the state to transform the economy and create job opportunities for the teeming youths.
Oyetola stated that this is borne out of the consciousness of the fact that unemployment, hunger and poverty are the roots of crimes.
“We believe that security is paramount and that no nation can progress or prosper without measures put in place to ensure adequate security of lives and property of its inhabitants.
“The 3-day Osun Economic and Investment Summit held recently was attended by local and foreign investors and business moguls in which about 22 of them have indicated interest in the state in core and diverse areas like mining, agriculture and tourism.”
The governor said the key objective in the state is to ensure the residents conduct their legitimate activities without fear of molestation by miscreants or bandits.
The Governor was represented by his Deputy Mr Benedict Alabi at the event.
