One of Nigeria’s flag bearers, MFM FC of Lagos had a 2-1 win over their visitors, MC ALGER, of Algeria in a first round of CAF Champions league tie played at the Agege Stadium, Lagos.
The two teams started the game on a very tight display until Akuneto Chijioke broke the deadlock in the 35th minutes when he scored from a penalty spot after an MFM player was brought down inside the 18 yard box by the visitor’s defender. The converted spot kick ensured Olukoya boys went into the break with alone goal lead.
MC ALGER came out in full force at the resumption from the break and their efforts were rewarded when Abdaziz Ammachi levelled up for the visitors in 53th minutes.
The game was heading to a draw before MFM’s Monsur Bashir’s outside the 18 yard box screamer in the 80th minutes put the hosts back in front as the encounter ended 2-1.
The result means that MFM worked on a tight rope going into the reversed feature following the Algerians’ away goal.
