A Civil Society Organisation, The Muslim Awareness International (MAI), has criticised the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon for his decision to exclude Israel from the list of violators of children rights.

MAI made the criticism through a press statement signed by its Director, Engr. Luqman Balogun and made available to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.

“It is with annihilated heart that we received a shocking news of the UN leaving Israel off its `List of Shame’ of states and armed groups that violate children’s rights during conflicts, despite an outcry over the death of thousands of children in the Gaza war since 1948.

“Israel has been involved in many deliberate disrespect and the killing of the Palestinian children.

“The heartless and notorious statement of Ariel Sharon is still fresh in the memory of many, concerning their hatred and their tastiness for the blood of the Palestinian children,” the statement read in part.

MAI stated further that the paragraph came from a 1956 interview of Ariel Sharon, conducted by an Israel Defence Forces general, named Ouze Merham.

“The paragraph advocates burning Palestinian children and raping Palestinian women and Arab girls, as well as Sharon claiming to have killed 750 Palestinian civilians during the Suez Crisis.
“I don’t know something called International Principles. I vow that I’ll burn every Palestinian child (that) will be born in this area.

“The Palestinian woman and child is more dangerous than the man, because the Palestinian child’s existence infers that generations will go on, but the man causes limited danger.

“I vow that if I was just an Israeli civilian and I met a Palestinian I would burn him and I would make him suffer before killing him.

“With one hit I’ve killed 750 Palestinians (in Rafah in 1956). I wanted to encourage my soldiers by raping Arab girls as the Palestinian woman is a slave for Jews, and we do whatever we want to her and nobody tells us what we shall do but we tell others what they shall do,” Sharon was quoted as saying in that publication.killings

MAI noted that since the horrible statement was uttered, the trend of killing of the Palestinian children took a more devastating dimension.

“Even though the Palestinian children have always been killed prior to this time.

“Muslim Awareness International strictly condemns such heartless decision of removing Israel from the list.

“We want to re affirm our stand that Israel should be added to the UN’s  list of violators of children’s rights and they should be treated as war criminals.

“We also wish to state that if UN would not add Israel to the list of the violators of children’s rights during war, then UN itself has violated and massacred the very existence of children’s rights and they (UN) should appear on the top of the violators list.

“We want to advise lovers of Palestinian children and those who stand for the truth of the Palestinian freedom to maintain peace and shun violence.

“We should endeavour to pray for them and speak about their struggle to get their life back peacefully,” the CBO stated.
