A 65-year-old security guard, Yisa Showunmi, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates Court in Lagos for allegedly defiling four teenagers which included his daughter.
However, when the case was mentioned, Magistrate Mrs B.O Osunsanmi did not take the plea of the accused before granting him bail in the sum of N200,000.
Osunsanmi while adjourning the case to Aug. 7 for a mention, also ordered the accused to produce two sureties as part of the bail conditions.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The magistrate directed the case file should be documented and sent to the office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Showunmi, who lives at Ikorodu, Lagos, was arraigned for defilement.
The accused was alleged to have committed the offence between 2010 and 2019, the Police Prosecutor, ASP Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court.
He said that the accused had carnal knowledge of the four teenagers who were all 16 years old, each.
“The defendant on several occasions have sexual intercourse with his daughter and three other teenage girls who were his neighbours.
“His daughter ran away from the house to stay with a friend where she narrated her ordeals in the hands of her father.
“The case was reported and the defendant is arrested,” the prosecutor told the court.
According to him, the offence contravened section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The section prescribes life imprisonment for defilement.
The case was adjourned until Aug. 7 for mention.
