Lagos resumes sale of LAKE rice towards Eid-El-Fitr

As Muslims prepare to celebrate the Eid-El-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan fast in a week’s time, Lagos State Government said it would begin the sale of LAKE rice on Monday, June 19 to enable Muslims to celebrate the festival.

Mr Oluwatoyin Surau, the State Commissioner of Agriculture, said on Sunday in Lagos that the commodity would be sold at the official price of N12,000 for 50kg bag,

Surau said the sale of the product, a joint agricultural venture between Lagos and Kebbi States. woud be sold at designated approved retail outlets across the State beginning on Monday.

He explained that the sale of the product was part government’s commitment to ensuring that Lagosians scale through the current economic recession.

The commissioner noted that Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State had assured Lagosians that his administration would take every possible step to achieve food security and create more jobs for the youths.

He said the rice, had been subsidised by the state government and would be available in various sizes and at approved outlets., saying that this would make the product affordable for the average resident, adding that the rice is fresh and safe for consumption.

“This will make the product affordable for the average resident, The rice is fresh and safe for consumption,” Surau said.

He assured that the ministry would ensure a fair distribution of the commodity across the state and ensured that the product was available during the festive period.

The prices of the product has not changed; the 50kg bag of rice brand would be sold for N12,000 while the 25kg and 10kg would be available at N6,000, and N2,500 respectively.
