Ogun Police arrests kidnapper, rescue victim

The Police in Ogun State on Tuesday arrested a suspected member of kidnapping gang, who abducted one Mrs Abosede Adenuga from Lagos on Monday.

DSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said in a statement in Abeokuta that the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the command ambushed, arrested the suspected kidnapper and rescued the victim.

Adejobi explained that the SARS operatives, acting on a tip off lay, siege for the kidnappers at Imodi Ijasi along Ijebu Ode/Ikorodu road.

Items recovered from the gang included one locally made cut-to-size double barreled gun loaded with one live cartridge, four live cartridges, a Volkswagen car with Registration Number – MUS 471 AU  and assorted charms.

“The command has intensified effort to tackle the menace of kidnapping in Ogun State, particularly, in the Ijebu axis.

“The state as the Special Anti Robbery Squad ambushed and arrested a member of a kidnapping gang, who had kidnapped one Mrs Abosede Adenuga from Lagos State on March 16 at 10:50 pm.

“The SARS operatives had been deployed to police the Ibefun/Ikorodu road, where some suspected kidnappers operated and hid their captors.

“The operatives were informed of another kidnapping case by some informants that the gang was heading to Ijebu axis to hide the captors.

“The kidnappers met their Waterloo as they were ambushed by the police at Imodi Ijasi along Ijebu Ode/Ikorodu road, rescued the victim and arrested one Tunde Akilo.

“Some of the kidnappers, who noticed  police presence, jumped on a motorcycle and escape, but they were given a hot chase by the police operatives on another motorcycle,” Adejobi stated.
