For the family of retired Captain Henry Ungbuku, the Special Adviser to Gov. Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State on Aviation, Jan. 31, is a black Sunday that would not be forgotten in hurry following his abduction by gunmen in the early hours of the day.
Ungbuku was abducted at about 10.15 am after church service, as he was about leaving the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Light House Parish, located in Iwofe, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State.
It was gathered that Ungbuku was waylaid by the gunmen, numbering about four, as he was driving out of the church premises.
Ungbuku’s abductors were said to have asked him to open the door of his vehicle while one of them pointed a gun at him.
According to an eye witness account, the gunmen, drove their victim away to an unknown destination after forcing him into a waiting vehicle.
“There was confusion around the premises of the church when the incident happened.
“The kidnappers were all armed and many people who saw the scene were all scared.
“They were about four, but we did not know whether there are others hanging around the premises of the church.
“They forced him out of the car at gun point and took him away,” the eyewitness said.
As at the time of filing this report, thee kidnappers have not make their demand know to the family of the victim.
Mr. Ahmad Mohammad, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incidence.
He said that the Bayelsa Police Command has launched a serious manhunt apprehend the hoodlums and rescue the governor’s aid.
