The Yaba College of Technology Student Union election was Tuesday afternoon disrupted by hired thugs and some gunmen, believed to be some disgruntled students.
Eye witness accounts say all votes had been cast and counting was about to begin when the thugs descended on the venue of the election and scattered everything.
According to SaharaReporters, there is an unconfirmed report that one person died.
“While counting was ongoing, sporadic gunshots suddenly changed the atmosphere,” one student source said.
The gunshots created chaos within seconds as students abandoned the collation center and scampered for safety.
Some lecturers and administrative staff, who were present at the scene as monitors of the counting process, also took to their heals when the sporadic gunshots lasted.
One of the students said one unidentified dead person was found at the scene by the time then situation calmed.
The Police could not be reach for confirmation.
But a source said that men of the Sabo Police Station were drafted to the college to restore peace.
“The violence means that the votes cannot be counted anymore. The election process has to be done again because it is inconclusive.
“The attackers must have been cultists. Nobody else could be in possession of guns and know where exactly to strike on the campus,” one of the candidates in the elections said.
