Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has picked the presidential ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) at the end of the National convention that ended, Sunday morning in Port Harcourt, River State.
Atiku polled 1532 votes to defeat 11 other aspirants.
PDP accredited 3,274 delegates for the national convention to pick the party’s flagbearer for the 2019 presidential election.
The national convention was held at the Adokiye Amasiemeka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The 11 other aspirants, who aspired for the PDP’s presidential tickets, were Senate President Bukola Saraki, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State.
Others were former governors of Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto, Jigawa and Plateau states- Ahmed Makarfi, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Attahiru Bafarawa, Sule Lamido, and Jonah Jang.
The rest were immediate past Senate President David Mark; former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki and erstwhile lawmaker, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
Meanwhile, former governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke, has emerged the flag bearer of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the just concluded presidential primaries.
He emerged the winner with 812 votes out of a total votes cast of 1562 to beat four other contestants at the party’s National Convention held at the Old Parade ground in Abuja
His closest rival, Prof. Jerry Gana, polled a total of 612 votes.
