A middle-aged man, Tope Akindeji is now cooling off in a Police detention in Ondo State for allegedly killing his landlord following a disagreement on electricity bill.
Akindeji allegedly beat the 75 year-old landlord, Pa. Kayode Osunkalu, to death in a fisticuffs that ensued.
The Renaissance reports that the incident occurred at 17, Ayeferere Street, Ondo in Ondo West Local Government Area of the state.
Late Osunkalu was a retiree from the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, who owned the two-storey building where the incidence occurred.
Impeccable sources hinted that the late septuagenarian had an argument with his tenant, Akindeji, over the payment of an electricity bill brought to the House by officials of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).
The landlord was said to have ordered his tenants to pay the bill within 24 hours, which later degenerated into hot argument and fisticuffs.
It was gathered that the suspect held his landlord’s shirt for several minutes and allegedly beat him up.
“Pa Osunkalu slumped and was rushed to the State Hospital, where he was later confirmed dead by the doctors,” the source, who pleaded anonymity said.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Enuowa in Ondo town, Mr Kunle Omisakin, confirmed the incident.
He said that the suspect has been transferred to the homicide section in Akure, while remains of late Osunkalu’s have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital, Mortuary.
