The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Lasun Yussuff, has formally joined the race to contest governorship election in Osun State.
Yussuff, who made the declaration on Thursday in Osogbo, promised to perform credibly well if given the opportunity to govern the state.
He said that he had been a loyal member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The deputy speaker promised to generate more employment opportunities by leveraging on the Osun Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES), established by the incumbent Gov. Rauf Aregbesola.
“I will ensure that the OYES scheme is backed by legislation and pursue massive skill acquisition training in the education sector, on agriculture revolution and improve on the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state.
“I am not just struggling to be governor for the sake of it; rather, I want to be the governor because I have the requisite experience and the needed exposure.
“The people of Osun State are waiting for me because I am the one the cap fits and I will not disappoint them,” he said.
While recognising the fact that Mr Yussuff possesses the political exposure and relevant experience to govern the state, the party chairman, Mr Gboyega Famodun, enjoined the aspirant to play politics with humility.
“If it is the will of God for you to be the governor, so be it, but one thing that is sure is that only one person will pick the party’s ticket for the election,” the chairman said.
The Renaissance reports that 27 aspirants under the platform of APC have so far expressed intention to contest the yet to be fixed party’s primaries ahead of the September 22 gubernatorial election.
