Archbishop Onaiyekan expressed these views in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Archbishop Onaiyekan, who said he was concerned about the situation with the judiciary and the nation’s image abroad expressed disappointment with the way the National Judicial Council (NJC) handled some matters relating to corrupt judges who were retired and again, given full benefits.

The clergyman however, warned against any abuse of fundamental human rights.

He advised the government not to take actions too drastic as to make life too difficult for Nigerians, and at the same time to ensure the international community does not have a negative impression about the fight against corruption.

Meanwhile, the clergy has suggested that sittings in the National Assembly should be on a part time basis with legislators paid only sitting allowance, especially as the nation is presently experiencing an economic recession.

Archbishop Onaiyekan also urged the Government to continue addressing issues affecting residents of the Niger Delta region as it had to do with oil spillage polluting their environment.

Cardinal Onaiyekan called for sustainability of the amnesty programme just as he solicited for cooperation and unity among Christians and Muslims in Nigeria.

The Cardinal called for sustained dialogue with the Boko Haram, particularly for the release of the remaining Chibok girls that are still in captivity, and advocated for peaceful coexistence between Nigerian Muslims and Christians.
