President Muhammadu Buhari has accepted the resignation of Sen. Aisha Jummai Alhassan as Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development from the government with immediate effect.
In a letter he signed on Sunday (today), President Buhari said, “I have received your letter offering your resignation as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“I accept your resignation with immediate effect.
“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I thank you for your past services to the nation.”
Malam Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media & Publicity said on his official Twitter handle that the president has directed that the work of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development be looked after by Hajiya Aisha Abubakar, the Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment.
“This, also, is with immediate effect,” Garba tweeted.
The Renaissance reports that Alhassan had, in a letter sent to the President dated Saturday, Sept. 29, informed of her decision to quit Buhari’s government.
She thanked President Buhari for the opportunity to serve.
She then left the APC with all local government party leaders as well as some state lawmakers and joined the United Democratic Party (UDP).
