Famodun gave the assurance when the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam, officially declared his intention to contest as the governorship candidate under the party.

Salaam made his declaration on Thursday in Osogbo.

Speaking with The Renaissance on Tuesday, the chairman, who had made a similar pledge at the Salaam’s declaration, however, urged the speaker to work assiduously for the victory of the party ahead of the Sept. 22 election.

Meanwhile, the speaker has debunked report making rounds on social media that he had abandoned his gubernatorial ambition, saying the report was “fake and baseless”.

He said he attended a meeting in Lagos, which is now being used against him.

“The meeting I attended in Lagos with party leaders, Governors. Rauf Aregbesola of Osun, Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state and our state Chairman, was targeted at ensuring victory for the party in the coming election.

Salaam said he would like the next governor of the state to emerge from Osun West Senatorial District “in the interest of fairness, justice and equity”.

“Late Isiaka Adeleke, who came from the West, only spent 22 months as governor of the state while Chief Bisi Akande and Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who spent four and eight years respectively, were both from the Central District.

“It is equally essential to note that the incumbent, Gov. Aregbesola, who will complete two terms in November, comes from Osun East Senatorial District,” he said.

Reacting to the allegation of incompetence, Salaam said he was eminently qualified to govern the state with his experience from being a counsellor to the number three citizen in the state.

He prayed for the required wisdom for the Executive Council of the APC in process of the selection of the party’s candidate ahead of the Sept. 22 governorship election.
