An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in charge of Training and Development, Christopher Nosakhare Osakue, with Edo State Police Command has allegedly committed suicide in Benin City.
Withness said Osakue shot himself in the head with his service pistol inside his private residence located at Upper Sakponba area of Benin City.
Late ACP Osakue was recently posted from Ondo State Police Command to Edo State.
Before shooting himself, sources said the deceased sent a woman and her little boy, living with him, on an errand apparently to ensure that he carried out his suicide mission unhindered.
Late Osakue was said to have suffered a partial stroke some years ago, which affected his emotional and social activities.
He was gradually recovering from the stroke when he took his life without leaving a suicide note behind.
A neighbour of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, said she heard a gunshot inside the ACP residence about 5.00 p.m. on the fateful day.
She said that Osakue was attached to Ugbekun Police Division in the state command.
She added that after the sound of the gun, there was silence in the building until his wife screamed.
It was gathered that some youths in his area had visited the deceased on Christmas day and gave them money to celebrate the Yuletide.
Mr Haliru Gwandu, the State Commissioner of Police confirmed the incidence.
He explained that the pistol the late ACP used to commit the act was issued to him at the Ondo State Police Command from where he was recently posted to Edo State.
